Psalm 36:8, “They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.”

I think the ultimate fulfillment of this Psalm is hinted at in Jesus’ prayer to the Father in John 17. There we glimpse the inconceivable truth that we will–in some sense–be woven into the fellowship of the Triune God Himself. Without ceasing to be creatures, we will nevertheless know God and be known by God, love God and be loved by God, just as God knows and loves Himself.

Because of our union with Christ, we will feast on the abundance of God’s own house (which is ultimately His own fullness), and we will drink from the river of His delights (that is, not the primarily delights that He gives, but the delights that He enjoys within Himself, aka, His own beauty). So, I think this Psalm is ultimately pointing toward our being drawn in to enjoy all that the triune God is for us in His crucified and risen Son…..thus the imagery in today’s verse picture.
