Ezekiel 18:32, “I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!”

Today’s picture and passage are a simple reminder to me of two eternally weighty realities.

  • First—There are paths that we can walk—paths of idolatry, of taking the Lord lightly, of small concessions here or there—there are paths that we can walk that will lead to our eternal death.
  • Second—The heart of the Lord is always, “repent and live!” The call to turn, the open door to come home, the invitation to truly repent, to truly turn away and to truly turn back is ever and always open to us in Christ.

If that call is sounding in our hearts today—or ever in the future—may we respond! Every time the invitation to “repent and live” is pushed away, it will become fainter, because, just as our skin becomes less sensitive after every callous, so too our hearts become less responsive to grace as we refuse and refuse and refuse…”TODAY, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Hebrews 3:7-8), “a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise“ (Psalm 5:17), because whoever comes to Christ will never be cast out (John 6:37).
