Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
To take up our cross means to follow after Jesus Christ–the Beautiful One who has satisfied our soul, who is the End of all our Desiring, who is Divine Love incarnate. It means to press on to know the Lord, to seek to be in His presence and gaze upon His glory, and–beholding His glory–to be transformed into the same image of God-exalting, self-giving, love, which is–in this life–our cross.
