Good Friday 2025 – John 1:14

John 1:14, “The Word became Flesh…”

O, Word high-throned eternally,
O, Word beneath the world,
O, Word, Great Cosmic liturgy,
O, Name of God unfurled.

O, Name of God! O, Name of God!
Now sounding in our Flesh!
Now running red through mortal sod,
Down from your pierce’ed Breast.

Down from that riven veil, your side,
Down from your pierce’ed Breast,
Down pours the stream of nuptial wine
Down to the depths of Death.

Down to the proud, blaspheming lips
Of your blood-bonded Bride,
Accursed in God Forsakenness
Accursed—dying—to die.

Accursed, her flesh in your flesh borne;
Accursed, her death your doom;
Accursed, her pain your brow adorns;
Accursed, her fall your tomb.

“Accursed!” They cry, “for he who hangs in shame upon the Tree”
“By man and God forsaken is to blackest agony.”

But, lo, ‘tis God Himself who hangs, the High and Holy One!
The One who fills eternity, in love, to hell has come.
