Revelation 5:9, “…for you were slain…”

Short Thoughts:
The events of Revelation transpire because the scroll is opened. The scroll is opened because the Lamb is worthy. The Lamb is worthy because He was slain. One implication we can draw from this is that, as the Beloved Son hung naked and beaten and shamed and abandoned on the cross, He was achieving the goal of the creation, purchasing the conflagration of the elements, and securing the regeneration of all things.

Long Thoughts (an edited excerpt from my journal this morning. It particularly deals with the outpouring of the “wrath of the Lamb” in Rev.6:16, but these are the musings that inspired today’s picture, so I thought I’d include them here…)
“…Secondly—and I know I’ve said this before somewhere—see that this outpouring of wrath, this star-felling, sky-dissolving, mountain-flattening cataclysm of holy anger, is a direct result of the cross of Christ.
The Lamb opens this seal, and so unleashes these happenings, only because He is worthy to do so, and He is worthy to do so only because He was slain. The blood of the Son of God purchased Revelation 6 (and really, the rest of Revelation itself, all of which is in some way a result of the opening of these seals).
The destroying horsemen are summoned by the cries of Christ on the cross, the stars are shaken from the sky because the Morning Star is lifted up in death and raised again in resurrection, the heavens are rolled up and the earth is leveled because Christ hung between heaven and earth, was laid in the earth and raised again to heaven, and the wrath of the Lamb pours from the throne onto the world of rebellious humanity because the blood of the Son poured from the tree into the Golgotha’s dust.
Consider it….as the Beloved Son hung naked and beaten and shamed and abandoned on the cross, He was achieving the end of the world. As Christ relinquished His spirit, as the spear pierced His side, as He was taken down from the cross and laid in the heart of the earth, and as He—three days later—rose up from the dead to indestructible life, He ensured the dismantling of the universe, He purchased the conflagration of the elements, He secured the regeneration of all things. Awesome. Hallowed be the name of the Father and of the Lamb who was slain, who was raised, and who will pour out holy wrath on the earth…..may all who read this be found in Him on that day!”
